Becoming involved as a volunteer
Since 1987, LASS has grown considerably, becoming a major local voluntary organisation and registered charity responding to the ever increasing challenges of HIV/AIDS and sexual health in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
Through the commitment of our paid staff and Volunteers, we have been supporting and educating people; providing information and training; challenging prejudice and discrimination; and helping to keep the reality of HIV/AIDS and the needs of people affected as high-profile as possible.
Over the last 20 years, more than 450 local people have given their time to become actively involved with LASS as a Volunteer, whether supporting people affected; helping to raise awareness; getting involved with fundraising; being on our Management Committee/Board of Trustees; or assisting in a variety of other ways.
Volunteers have always been a significant and important element of LASS, bringing a wide range of skills, interests, life experiences and cultural backgrounds that reflect, strengthen and benefit our work and the lives of the people we support.
We welcome people who are genuinely interested in HIV/AIDS; are open-minded, non-judgemental, trustworthy and wanting to help make a difference, to become involved with us as a Volunteer.
We particularly need assistance with "Awareness-raising" about HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health through various events and activities; help with Fundraising; administration assistance, such as Reception; and if people have adequate time and commitment to also provide practical assistance, social support or "Mentoring" specifically for people living with HIV/AIDS.
