where your money will go

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. It's the only thing that ever has” - Margaret Mead

Donations are vital to four of our services. The people who use these services are often living in poverty as a result of their HIV status. You can rest assured that whatever you can afford to give will make a difference to the lives of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Every penny our Volunteers and Supporters raise goes directly to these funds. They are The Foodbank, the David Manley Fund, Winnie's Fund for Children and the Tim Aubrey Complementary Therapies Fund.

Winnie's Fund for Children
Children need warmth, shelter and love but they also need playtime and toys to be children with. Winnie made us realise how important this is.

Winnie was a little girl who came to Leicester with her parents. Her father was a Professor and her mother was a nurse. They came to the UK to further their education and had great hopes of educating people back home. Winnie's father became ill and it was discovered that not just he but all three members of this little family were HIV positive. As her father became more ill Winnie began to spend long periods of time in the family's bedsit with no toys to play with.

Winnie's fund exists to help meet the needs of children affected by HIV and improve the quality of their childhood.

The Foodbank
A balanced diet is important for everyone. But many people with HIV experience suppressed appetites and/or weight loss and many people we see are in financial crisis. People living on less than the lowest benefit level are eligible for food vouchers to the value of £7.50 per week.

Because of high demand for the Foodbank we can only offer this service for 6 months. However children with HIV will continue to receive food vouchers without time limit.

David Manley Fund
David Manley was a Leicestershire man with AIDS who died in May 1988. This fund was set up in his memory to help local people affected by HIV in extreme financial crisis. This provides people with small one-off grants of, on average, around £50 whilst we help to provide access to benefits or other income.

Tim Aubrey Complementary Therapies Fund
Tim was a Volunteer and Service User. He was also a Complementary Therapist. This fund was set up in Tim's memory to provide people with a whole range of therapies that can help with pain relief and provide a general sense of well being.
