THE NEW LASS SOCIAL ENTERPRISE TEAM (SET)
Two Social Enterprise Development Workers have been appointed

They work at and from the LASS Offices at The Michael Wood Centre in Regent Road, Leicester, LE1 6YF
Their role is to develop Social Enterprise programmes for LASS.
Both workers started work on 9th November 2009 and are working on the formation of a Social Enterprise company to deliver services for LASS. It is hoped that these will begin operation in spring 2010.
Traditionally charities have had to raise money from donations; social enterprise now offers a more flexible approach to providing services and raising funds.
Social Enterprise (SE) bodies are able to trade commercially in a way that would not be possible for charities. It is also possible to bid for funding that is available to SE bodies but not available for charities. SE companies can bid for contracts under the new government and local authority commissioning procedures. This will help LASS to provide a wider range of services and reach more service users.
SE will enable LASS to raise money through trading or to provide services on a commercial basis. Services to users can be extended and new services provided, through this approach. This will avoid the restrictions placed on LASS as a charity.
